Council seeks to address problems with some private waste water systems

Donegal County Council is to empty some Effluent Treatment Tanks serving private estates in Donegal in cases where the tanks are causing a public health nuisance.
A meeting of the Stranorlar Electoral Area has been told that there are problems in a number of estates where developers are no longer managing the waste treatment systems, but the council hasn’t yet taken over.
There have also been problems with payment of ESB bills for associated pumps, with a threat to disconnect the pumps in a number of estates on hold pending further discussions.
Stranorlar Area Councillor Patrick Mc Gowan says government involvement will be necessary for a long term resolution of all these issues, but in the meantime, the council is stepping in where necessary………
