Letterkenny can become a “Dementia Friendly Town” – Kavanagh

Three new people in Donegal will be diagnosed with dementia or Alzhemer’s Disease every week, with 10% of all people with the condition under 65.
That statistic was presented to Letterkenny Town Council last night by Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh, who called for all public buildings to be made more user friendly for people with such conditions.
He said signage, colour and presentation can be designed in a way which makes buildings and services more accessible, and training can be provided as part of a pilot scheme to make Letterkenny a “Dementia Friendly” town, and will hopefully spresd into the county.
Cllr Kavanagh is welcoming an invitation to the Donegal Alzheimer’s Society to meet the council next month.
He believes it can be a success…………….
