Court hears that Gardai were surrounded by more than 100 clubbers in Gweedore

A number of people have been charged following a melee in Gweedore when four gardai were surrounded by more than 100 clubbers outside a chip shop.
Nine men were accused at Dungloe District Court yesterday of 22 offences which included public disorder, obstructing gardai and assault on three of them.
Two of the men, a 22-year-old and a 24-year-old are accused of assaults on three gardai, all over 6 ft 4 ins tall, at Ardnagappary, Derrybeg, on March 6th last.
The prosecution will say the charges arise of out a melee when gardai were surrounded by more than 100 clubbers and threatened, abused and assaulted as they tried to break up a row between two men outside a chip-shop opposite the Dodge nightclub in Gweedore.
The charges put before the court yesterday followed a lengthy investigation which included study of CCTV cameras.
The case was adjourned to February 14 at Dungloe District Court.
