Second man arrested after taxi hijack

A second man has been arrested following an assault on a taxi driver on the outskirts of Letterkenny.

Two men threatened and assaulted a taxi driver before hijacking his vehicle just around 6am on Sunday morning.

A garda spokesperson said the two men were passengers in the taxi and had asked to be taken to Lifford.

The incident took place at Galdonagh, on the Letterkenny to Lifford road.

One man was arrested at around 130pm on Sunday afternoon and the burnt out taxi was found in Lifford an hour later.

The taxi-driver was treated for shocked, but was otherwise unharmed.

The first man arrested, aged in his 20s, has since been released.

The second arrest was made at lunchtime yesterday.
