Cost of calling out the fire service set to double

The cost of calling the Fire Services to your home in the event of a house fire is set to double.
That is one of the measures contained in Donegal County Council’s draft Budget 2012. The minimum cost is to increase from 100 to 200 euro.
The cost of running Donegal’s fire service for 2012 is estimated to be 5,970,000 Euro. In an effort to meet these costs it will now cost a minimum of 200 euro to call out the fire service in the event of a fire.
However, the council expects that in most instances home owners insurance will pay the charge. The council says that where no insurance exists or where social welfare is the only form of household income, a waiver system will apply. All commercial incidents will continue to be charged at cost.
Its estimated that the actual income from the fire service next year will be 650 thousand Euro – to maximise this, the council is to focus on collecting ,in full, charges from insured incidents and road traffic areas
