Plans for scrap metal recycling facility before An Bord Pleanala

Plans for a controversial end of life vehicle and scrap metal recycling facility at Bonagee in Letterkenny are back before An Bord Pleanala.
Kelvin McElhinney has been granted condition permission by Letterkenny Town Council to create the facility.
There was a similar type application from Kelvin McElhinney last year. On that occasion, permission was granted for retention, but overturned by An Bord Pleanala in February of this year.
This time the council approved permission for a change of use, despite an objection from the Letterkenny Tidy Towns committee.
A Mr. Charles Gallagher also submitted to the council that the site in question has been operated in an untidy state since 2010, and does nothing to enhance the town, while in another submission, former Councillor Neil Clarke said he finds it unusual that the applicant has continued to operate from the site after being previously refused planning permission.
A total of six parties are listed as opposing the council’s decision, these include Neil Clarke and Green Vehicle Recycling Limited.
