VFI highlights risk of further pub closures

The Vintners’ Federation of Ireland says 30-thousand jobs have been lost in the industry over the last 4 or 5 years – with the loss of a further 5-thousand expected next year.
It comes after a recent report found that over 70 Donegal pubs have closed since 2005. The VFI, which has 29 member premises in Donegal, is hosting a demonstration at government buildings this afternoon.
Speaking on today’s Shaun Doherty Show, VFI President Gerry Mellett said many publicans would be prepared to buy vehicles to bring their customers home, if they secured tax relief on them. He also called for the rates burden to be eased………..
