Garda station closure top of agenda at Glencolmcille parish council meeting

A new Parish Council for the Glen area of Glencolmcille parish had its first meeting this week.
The ection was held the same day as the Presidential and everyone on the electoral register was invited to cast their vote. The committee is in situ for a three year period and works in tandem with other development committees in the parish and with the Lár Comhairle.
The main item for discussion at the first meeting was the threatened closure of the local Garda stations. It was felt that it was unfair to have both stations in the parish under consideration for closure and that this would be a strong blow to the region.
The area has had a number of incidents recently including missing individuals where the local knowledge of the Gardaí was invaluable.
