Minister says lessons have been learned from the last two winters

The Transport Minister says we're better prepared this year to deal with a bad winter.

Leo Varadkar says lessons have been learned from the big freeze that gripped the country for the past two winters.

Extra money's been allocated for this year to ensure plenty of salt and grit supplies.

But Minister Varadkar says if it gets very bad, no amount of preparation will avert major problems:
