Man admits £35,000 Tesco theft

A 42-year-old man has pleaded guilty to stealing more than £35,000 from Tesco in Limavady a year ago when he appeared at Derry Crown Court today.
He also admitted attempting to mislead police by claiming that he had beenc forced to take the money and bring it to Donegal.
Michael Thomas Kearns originally from Claudy in County Derry but now with an address in Blackpool admitting the theft of the money on dates between August 6th and August 9th 2010.
He also admitted a charge of perverting the course of justice by making a false statement to police claiming he had been forced to take the money to Buncrana in County Donegal on August 8.
A pre-sentence report was requested and Kearns was released on continuing bail to appear again on October 7.
Judge Piers Grant warned him that these were ‘serious offences’ and that he could be facing a custodial sentence.
