Calls for third Derry bridge linking Newbuildings and Letterkenny Road

A Derry Councillor says it’s time to reopen the debate about a third bridge over the Foyle in Derry, this one linking Newbuildings and the Letterkenny Road.
The need for such a bridge has been discussed before, most recently in a report last year, which found that of 6,100 vehicles arriving into the city from the A5 each day, about 50% have a destination on the Cityside which should not require driving into the centre.
However, the report also found that the Letterkenny Road itself is not of a high standard, and would need substantial improvements for this bridge to function to its full potential.
However, Cllr Tony Hasson says with so much work taking place on the Templemore and Culmore side, it’s time to revisit the third bridge idea….
