Donegal Fianna Fail Deputy would back Gay Byrne’s Aras bid

Donegal Fianna Fail Deputy Charlie McConologue has said he would have 'no problem' with his party backing Gay Byrne if he chose to run for the presidency.

Reports suggest that discussions have been ongoing between Fianna Fail and the veteran broadcaster.

It is understood Fianna Fail  would ensure Mr Byrne secured the support of the 20 Oireachtas members required to become an official candidate.
