Council meeting adjourned as a mark of respect to Frank Gallagher

Letterkenny Town Council has adjourned its monthly meeting as a mark of respect to former Cllr Frank Gallagher, who served as a member for six months in 2009. Mr Gallagher, at the time a member of the Green Party, had been coopted onto the council in January 2009 following the resignation of Cllr Neil Clarke.
Paying tribute, members remarked on the fact that long before he was coopted, he attended every meeting as a member of the public, and was never slow to make his opinion known.
However, all members remarked that while they had many political disagreements, some of them heated, they never became personal.
Mayor Gerry Mc Monagle  says it’s sad that his first full meeting in the chair as mayor had to end in this way……..

Tributes were also paid last night to Traffic Warden Mickey Curran, who died last week. Deputy Mayor Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh described him as one of the best known and most recognisable characters in Letterkenny.
