Peace Bridge may affect some pupils’ school transport entitlements

A school principal in Derry says she is worried that the new Peace Bridge over the Foyle could make some of her pupils ineligible for free school transport.

The Western Education and Library Board is expected to make a statement tomorrow on the implications for schools of the new pedestrian and cycle bridge, which is set to open on June 25th.

Kathleen Gormley of St Cecilia's College fears about 100 of her pupils could be affected.

Under the legislation, children are not entitled to free transport if they live within three miles of their school.
