Explosion at council pump house

Donegal County Council has confirmed that there was an explosion at a booster pump house in Carrigart on Tuesday.

A pressure vessel ruptured, causing damage to the pump house and resulted in the loss of water supply to up to 70 houses in the Gortnabrade area.

The Council have said they are taking measures to restore a temporary supply, which is expected to be in place by this afternoon, they are also exploring an option of upgrading the 700 metre pipeline, which would eliminate the need for a pump house.

Local Cllr, Noel McBride, said it's lucky no-one was nearby, as they would have been seriously injured.
