O’Domhnaill urges government to come clean on domestic charge plans

Opposition politicians are accusing the Environment Minister of creating confusion over plans for new taxes.
Minister Phil Hogan announced yesterday that water meters would be installed in every home from next year, in preparation for the new water tax.
And yesterday evening he outlined plans for a flat-rate household charge which will hit taxpayers from the first of January. It will be used to fund the metering programme, with plans to come before cabinet in the next few weeks.
However, Senator Brian O’Domhnaill is accussing MInister Hogan of seeking to introduce domestic rates through the back door, and is calling on the government to be upfront about its plans………
