Soccer – Derry continue unbeaten run

League of Ireland Premier Division
Bohemians 0 v 2 Derry City
Derry City have gone eight games unbeaten and with Sligo losing to UCD, the Candystrips hold second position in the table two points behind leaders Shamrock Rovers. In a tempestuous encounter, Bohemians were reduced to 10 men in the 43rd minute after Keith Buckley was shown a straight red, while manager Pat Fenlon was sent to the stands. Daniel Lafferty punished Bohs in first -half injury time when the midfielder headed home a free-kick from Kevin Deery at the far post. It brought an end to an opening half that saw six cards dished out, including Buckley’s red. Derry went on to extend their lead two minutes after the restart through James McClean. The 22-year-old latched onto a pass from Eamon Zayed before finishing the ball to the net to register his fifth goal of the season. The hosts were awarded a penalty six minutes from time but Killian Brennan hit the crossbar.
Derry City Manager Stephen Kenny spoke with Kenny Harkin on Saturday Sport.
