Pat The Cope calls for army help to tackle gorse fire

The Minister for Defence is being urged to dispatch the army to assist with a serious gorse fire in West Donegal.

A number of families have been evacuated from their homes as over one hundred fire fighters continue to battle the blaze outside Dungloe near Lettermacaward.

The Donegal fire service say they believe the fire was started deliberately.

Motorists are being advised to avoid the area, particularly the N56 road, as forests and bogland fires remain totally out of control.

Local MEP Pat the Cope Gallagher says the fire is now an 'inferno'
