The Defence Forces have been deployed to help a major operation to tackle a large gorse fire in West Donegal.

Up to 50 personel will help ten units of the fire service already fighting the blaze in Lettermacaward and Dungloe.

The Donegal Fire Service has said the blaze was started maliciously.

A number of key roads in the area are also impassable, the Meendrain, Meenacross, Leitir and Fintown Roads are all out of bounds, and motorists are asked to avoid these areas.

MEP Pat the Cope Gallagher, who lives in the heart of the worst affected area, says more help is needed to tackle the fires........
