JPC briefed on rise in opportunistic crime in Donegal

The Chairperson of the Donegal Joint Policing Committee is urging people to be vigilant in their local areas as gardai report a significant rise in the number of burglaries in the county.
Figures presented to the JPC by Superintendent Vincent O’Brien show a 36% increase in burglaries in Donegal, and a 66% rise in thefts from vehicles.
Superintendent O’Brien said there’s been a particular rise in cases of opportunistic thefts, where people find open windows and doors, often in broad daylight.
JPC Chairman Cllr Patrick Mc Gowan says schemes like Neighbourhood Watch should be considered in communities across Donegal, but most importantly, people should ensure they don’t make it easy for the thieves ……..
