No new cases of TB found at Loretto Secondary School

The HSE says no new cases of TB have been discovered following a major screening operation at Loretto Secondary School in Letterkenny.
The screening programme was implemented a fortnight ago after a pupil was found to have TB, with a senior Public Health Specialist in Donegal saying that nothing untoward has been found.
Communicable Diseases Specialist Dr Anthony Breslin, who oversaw the screening operation at Loreto Secondary School has written to Principal Susan Kenny thanking the staff and students for their cooperation in regard to the TB screening clinics that were held recently.
No active cases of TB were found, and only a very small number of latent TB cases were identified. The HSE is stressing that this is as would be expected when screening a large group. Latent TB cases are part of the normal background in the general population.
Dr. Breslin says a small number of pupils who were unable to attend at the original clinics have yet to be screened, and arrangements are being made for that to take place in the coming weeks, with every effort being made to minimise disruption to examinations.
