Cllr Terence Slowey “breached ethics guidelines” – SIPO

A government ethics watchdog has found against a Donegal councillor who claimed double expenses for the same journey.
Cllr. Terence Slowey, the Fine Gael whip on Donegal County Council, claimed a mileage allowance for a conference in Killarney, Co Kerry and a separate allowance for another event in Clonakilty, Co Cork on the same weekend.
The Standards in Public office Commission found that Councillor Slowey breached ethics guidelines by claiming twice for the journey, and by failing to attend the entire conference in Killarney.
Its report has now been sent to Donegal County Council, and to the Ministers for Finance and Environment for their consideration.
When the anamoly first came to light, Councillor Slowey said he made an error, and immediately paid back the money.
