Mauritius police say Michaela Harte was murdered

Police in Mauritius investigating the death of Michaela Harte have launched a murder investigation.

It follows a post mortem examination which confirmed that the 27-year-old was strangled while on honeymoon on the island.

The daughter of Tyrone football manager Mickey Harte was found dead in her hotel room yesterday.

She married Down footballer John McAreavy on December the 30th.

Police says her husband is not a suspect and that the motive behind the attack is possibly robbery.

Superintendent Yoosoof Soopun, from the Mauritius Police Force, says Mr McAreavy was in the restaurant of the hotel when his wife was murdered.

He says they've identified six potential suspects and are confident of an arrest later today.
