Plans for a controversial cross border landfill at Macosquin in County Derry have been approved by the Planning Service in the North.
Almost 2,000 objections were filed against the application from the North West Region Waste Management Group to locate the landfill site for non-hazardous waste at the Cam Quarry near Macosquin.
The group is made up of seven local councils, including Donegal County and Derry City councils. Residents argue that water quality will be compromised, but the North’s Environment Minister Edwin Poots is giving it the go ahead.
