Fianna Fail has found itself behind Sinn Fein in an opinion poll for the first time ever.
A Red C poll for the Irish Sun today shows support for the main government party has reached another new low, at 13 per cent.
Fine Gael is still the most popular party, followed by Labour.
Sinn Fein's surge in popularity is being attributed in part to the success of Deputy Pearse Doherty in last week's Donegal South West by-election.
Meanwhile, Sinn Fein's Dail grouping has confirmed that Deputy Doherty is the party’s new Finance Spokesperson.
