Buncrana councillor wants Ramsar status for Lough Swilly

There are calls for an application to be made to help secure internationally recognised 'Ramsar' status for Lough Swilly.

The proposal has been made by Buncrana Town Councillor Michelle Bradley.

Ramsar provides a frame work for national action and international cooperation for the conservation and wise use of wetlands and their resources.

Councillor Bradley says that Lough Swilly is a perfect example of what Ramsar is seeking to achieve and says it is not all about conservation:
