A spokesperson for Tanaiste and Education Minister Mary Coughlan says Fine Gael claims that Letterkenny and Sligo Institutes of Technology may be amalgamated are "completely untrue".
The issue was raised by Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny during a press conference in Donegal Town this afternoon.
Attacking Ms Coughlan's record, he said she had let the people of Donegal down on the jobs front, and said as Education Minister, she has questions to answer about third level eucation provision in the North West............
LYIT President Paul Hannigan says there is no such proposal on the table that he is aware of.
He says therre is a report being published shortly which is expected to call for closer collaboration between third level institutions, but it's not likely to make any specific recommendations..........
