Man rescued from Derry house after suspected arson attack

A police investigation is underway after a man in his 40s was rescued from a house fire in Derry this morning.
The fire, which is being treated as suspicious, was reported just after 5 o’clock at Cavanagh Court in the Ballymagroarty area.
The man was alone in the house in an upstairs bedroom when the fire broke out. He was taken to hospital suffering from the effects of smoke inhalation.
It’s believed flammable liquid had been poured through the letterbox and set alight.
Police are appealing for witnesses.
Kevin Lynch is Station Commander at Crescent Link Fire Station – He says there were some tense moments as the man was trapped in a bedroom waiting for the fire service to arrive……….
