Donegal County Council urged to make immediate payments when it buys land

Donegal County Council is being urged to make immediate payments when it buys land. The issue was raised at today’s reconvened council meeting by Cllr Noel Mc Bride, who said it’s not fair that landowners can be left for a considerable time without payment, and he wants that to be addressed.

Officials say disputes and problems over title can create delays, but they try to get them resolved as quickly as possible.

Cllr Mc Bride says issues about title should be resolved quickly, and preferably before deals are completed and contracts are signed.

He successfully moved a motion that the norm should be for payments to be made immediately:
