Keaveney calls for the review of how the 2nd home property tax is collected

Senator Cecilia Keaveney has called for the review of how the 2nd home property tax is collected stating that for many the first reminder people get about the tax is 3 months after it is due.
She says that people were unaware that the new year deadline was back in July and are now being told that they owe, not only the 200 euros but also 20 euros per month that they are over.
Speaking in the Senead Senator Keaveney called on the Minister for the Enviroment to introduce a system similar to TV Licences and car tax where-by people are reminded before the tax is due:


Responding Minister Ciaran Cuffe said that each individual council is responsible for their own areas and that they are better position to introduce any change.
He also had this to says in response to comments from Senator Keaveny that a backlog had been caused at the council because one person was on holidays:
