Soccor – Derry Back Top Of First Division

League Of Ireland First Division Results
Derry City 6 v 0 Mervue United
Finn Harps 1 v 1 Wexford Youths
Mark Farren’s hat-trick helped Derry City return to the top of the First Division as they routed Mervue United. Farren hit Derry’s opener on five minutes and Stephen Parkhouse doubled Derry’s lead on 29 minutes. Parkhouse produced an extraordinary miss before Farren hit the third from the penalty spot on 60 minutes. Farren completed his hat-trick on 72 before late goals from James McLean (79) and Seamus Sharkey (85). The win moves Derry City three points ahead of Monaghan and will help the Candystripes’ goal difference in a tight race at the top.
Harps really only have themselves to blame after failing to pick up the win in Friday night’s encounter against Wexford Youths in Ballybofey. One all it finished – but the home side conceded a sloppy equaliser with 20 minutes to go and had to be content with another home draw.It was an all too familiar story for James Gallagher’s men. They got themselves into a winning position but were unable to take it on from there and Wexford were able to steal in to snatch a share of the spoils.Their goal came on 59 minutes when Mark Brolly’s cross from the left was steered home by Kevin McHugh for his 9th league goal of the season.
