Director expects LYIT dropout rate to fall further

The Director of LYIT says he expects the drop out rate at the college to fall further, as the economic crisis continues to bite.

Traditionally, the institute has had a high drop out rate, close to 40% 10 years ago.

This year, the figure is 25%, still among the highest in the country. Paul Hannigan says the way the figures asre calculated differs from college to college, and that must be addressed.

In this instance, he says, the drop out rate is being affected by employment trends, and he expects more people to stay in college in the coming years……..
