No injuries in bomb attack on Derry police station

A car bomb has exploded outside Strand Road PSNI station in Derry.
In the early hours of the morning, a taxi driver was forced to bring the device to Strand Road police station early this morning by two hijackers, one of whom was armed with a gun. The device went off at around twenty past three. There were no injuries, but the station’s perimeter wall was damaged, with damage also caused to nearby buildings.
Derry Mayor Cllr Colm Eastwood blamed dissident republicans for the attack, and claimed police didn’t have time to evacuate a nursing home or apartments right beside the police station.
Foyle MP Mark Durkan says it’s extremely fortunate there were no serious injuries or fatalities.
He is stressing that those responsible have achieved nothing….

Donal Kavanagh reports on the reaction to the attack….
