Athletics – English wins Irish Title

Letterkenny’s Mark English took victory on Sunday at the Junior and u23 Irish Track and Field Championships in Tullamore. The Youth Olympic bound runner was a comfortable winner in the Junior 800ms. Donegal’s Darren Mc Brearty finished third in the same race. His time was good enough to qualify for the World Juniors in Canada. There was also a 1 2 3  for Strabane in the u23 Javelin with Aaron Crawford taking victory.
On Saturday at the Taltan Games also in Tullamore, St Eunan’s Rauiri Finnegan won the 1500m in a record time of 3.54. Karl Griffin from Abbey Vocational School won the 800m. Griffin’s schoolmate Claire Brady took silver in the pole vault. All three Donegal athletes have now qualified for the Ireland Schools team.
