The Gweebara Conservation Group and Donegal Alternative to Pylons say they will coordinate a major campaign of opposition against the ESB and Eirgrid when construction starts on a major power line in the county.
Preliminary work is due to get under way on the line connecting Letterkenny and Gweedore via Binbane and Glenties later this year, with the ESB hoping the line will be operational by mid 2013.
The Head of ESB Network Services is Padraig O’Hickey says the issue has been comprehensively debated, and he believes the work should now be allowed proceed…..
However, protestors refute the claim that putting the line underground will not work, and say they will take measures up to and including tunnelling to prevent the work from going ahead.
Spokesperson Patricia Sharkey says the campaign will be a national one along the lines of campaigns against developments at Carrickmines and Rossport……………
