Donegal Man acquitted on rape and sexual assault charges

A Donegal man has been acquitted at the Central Criminal Court of raping a woman after a party in the county almost three years ago.
The man, who can not be named for legal reasons, had pleaded not guilty to raping and sexually assaulting the woman in a house in Donegal on May 20, 2007.
The jury of nine men and three women returned the verdicts of not guilty on both counts on Friday evening after six hours and 48 minutes deliberation over two days.
Mr Justice John Edwards then told the accused man he was free to go. The complainant was visibly distressed following the verdict.
