GAA – Tyrone and Derry Relegated

NFL Division 1
Tyrone 1-11 v 2-14 Dublin
Galway 1-12 v 2-13 Derry
Dublin sent Tyrone crashing through the Division 1 trapdoor with a convincing victory at Healy Park. Pat Gilroy’s men tore the Red Hand defence to shreds in the first half to lay the foundations for victory. Bernard Brogan was the star of the show with an eight points tally. There was no celebration for Mickey Harte in his 140th game in charge. The rampant Dubs lead at the break 2-10 to 0-7 and in the second half the gap proved too much for the Ulster side.
Derry will also be in Division 2 next season. Damien Cassidy’s side needed a big win away to Galway to stand any chance of staying up. The Oak Leafers started well and goals by Sean Leo McGoldrick and Declan Mullan saw them lead 2-4 to 0-2 . In the end it came down to score difference and had Derry won by just one more point they would have survived but it’s Monaghan who stay up as Derry and Tyrone join Donegal in Division 2 next season.
