Funeral of Derry youth who drowned during police chase

The death of a Derry teenager after he jumped into a swollen river while fleeing police has left a deep scar running through his young friends and community, mourners at his funeral were told yesterday.
15-year-old Kyle Bonnes was laid to rest yesterday when many of his friends gathered for the funeral service wearing Rangers tops bearing the teenager’s name.
Speaking to mourners at Glendermott Presbyterian Church in Derry yesterday, the Rev John Hanna said the youngster’s death had had a profound effect on the Tullyally community where he lived.
15-year-old Kyle Bonnes drowned after he jumped into the River Faughan in the village of Drumahoe.
He entered the river on April 7 in a bid to escape two PSNI officers who had been called to the village following reports of a disturbance.
The Police Ombudsman is investigating the circumstances of his death.
