Resource Centre claims Bus Eireann is abandoning St Johnston

A Bus Eireann service which was used by school pupils in St Johnston to get to school in Raphoe and other areas will not be available from next Monday. The Derry to Stranorlar route is being changed, to travel via Newtowncunningham and Letterkenny instead.
Bus Eireann say any school pupils will be accomodated on alternative buses, but the family resource centre in St Johnston says members of the local community are now left with no public transport service.
There’s also local anger at the speed at which the change is being implemented, with students and other passengers given less than a week’s notice.
Speaking on today’s Shaun Doherty Show, Mary Crossan of the St Johnston Resource Centre said the lack of consultation is typical of how the area is treated.
Meanwhile, Bus Eireann has confirmed that a re-organisation of Routes 487, 490, 491 and 494 linking the Twin Towns, Letterkenny and Strabane will lead to route alterations and some reduction in frequency.
