Jobless total in Donegal rises again

The numbers on the live register in Donegal in December showed a increase on the November figure with an extra seven hundred people signing on in the run up to Christmas
Statistics published by the CSO today show that in the space of a year the numbers signing on on the county have risen by over five thousand.
There are now 20,748 people signing on the live register in Donegal, an increase of just under 700 from November to December.
All office recorded an increase most notably in Inishowen – an extra 239 people joined the live register in December bringing the total there to 4,888
There was also a large increase in Letterkenny – the jobless total stands  now at 5,500, month on month increase of 155.
The increase in Ballyshannon was 74,  in Dungloe 71, Ballybofey 69 and 54 in Dunfanaghy. There were marginal increases recorded in Killybegs and Donegal Town.
On a year on year bases the numbers across the county increased by a third.
