Man involved in fatal Inishowen collision back in court

The 24 year old man arrested following the fatal collision last month in which Garda Gary Mc Laughlin was killed has appeared in court again in Letterkenny.
Martin Mc Dermott, with an address at 19 Castlegrove, Raphoe was charged with a number of offences in Carrick On Shannon before Christmas, and faced further charges last evening, none of them relating to the fatal crash in the early hours of December 13th.
He was charged with stealing a chequebook and passing false cheques in a number of locations in March 2008, causing criminal damage and resisting arrest in Letterkenny in July 2008, and also with drink driving and driving without insurance at Tullyearl, Donegal Town in August 2008.
He was further charged with failing to appear in court in September 2008 and January last year,.
Defence solicitor Don Mahoney sought bail, but Judge Seamus Hughes accepted garda objections on the basis that the accused is a “flight risk”, who has already lived outside the juridstiction.
The case has been adjourned until Friday.
