Juristiction of Lough Foyle back in the spotlight

The question of how Lough Foyle should be administered is back on the table after it emerged that Derry Port has applied for a licence to expand its dumping levels in the lough.

However, Agriculture and Fisheries Minister Brendan Smith has confirmed to Senator Cecilia Keaveney that his Department has not received any formal notification of the application.

Minister Smith told Senator Keaveney that 'it would be expected' that the Northern authorities would seek his Department's view of such a proposal, but that hasn't happened.

Senator Keavney said to process an application without reference to the irish government is contrary to the spirit of the Good Friday Agreement, andn that's a problem which needs to be urgently addressed
