Local firms urged to apply for olympic contracts

The Western Development Commission says with less than 1,000 days to go to the start of the 2012 olympics in London, there are major opportunities for North West businesses to tender for contracts.

Seven of the major construction contracts went to Irish firms, while at the other end of the scale, almost three-quarters of the 2010 contracts awarded to date have been to firms where the workforce was between 1 and 10 employees.

WDC spokesperson Joanne Grehan says there are real openings for small businesses.

Any businesses who wish to apply for contracts should open an account at the dedicated website www.competefor.com
