Council water charges unfair because of water wastage

tapA Donegal County Councillor has claimed that it is unreasonable to expect people to pay for water when the council can't account for almost half of what it provides.

A report last month showed that 43% of potable council water cannot be accounted for, although a drop on previous figures, the council has one of the highest water wastage levels in the country.

At yesterday's council meeting Councillors said that government must provide funding to help replace the county's aging water infrastructure.

The issue was raised by Councillor Noel McBride:[podcast]http://www.highlandradio.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/12/noelam.mp3[/podcast]
