Deadline for payment of second home levy is today

Today is the last day for the payment of the second home levy to local authorities across the country, but there are fears that the vast majority of people will not meet the deadline.
Penalties for non-payment come into effect from the end of October.
Donegal Senator Pearse Doherty says he’s been given figures which show that as of last Wednesday, of the projected €4.6 million euro due to Donegal County Council, less than €377,000 had been paid.
He says this does not auger well for the council’s finances and has repeated his call on the council to embark on a major advertisintg campaign, particularly in Northern Ireland.
