Haiti Fundraising
Zombies from all walks of life (or death!) are being asked to shuffle down to Falcarragh on June 26th for a huge sponsored Thriller dance for Haiti.
In a unique fundraising effort a group of people are organising a Michael Jackson themed evening of events which will culminate in an outdoor performance of the famous MJ Thriller dance on the streets of Falcarragh. The group hope to raise much needed funds for Haiti by providing sponsorship cards to all those who register for the event.
Free workshops to learn the Thriller dance steps have been taking place over the last 3 weeks and over 70 people have signed up for the event. To cope with demand and to allow new ‘zombies’ catch up with the steps a special workshop is being planned for Bank Holiday Monday (May 3rd) in the YARD, Falcarragh from 7-9pm. This workshop is open to all adults(16+) who would like to have a go at learning the steps. Participants are not obliged to register for the event by attending these workshops, come along for the craic.
For those who can’t make all of the workshops but would like to be involved on the day the steps can be viewed online! They are available on the Thriller for Haiti Facebook page or alternatively you can check them out on You tube – Learn Thriller dance. These steps are provided by www.thrilltheworld.com.
The event is planned to coincide with the first anniversary weekend of Michael Jackson. Other themed activities will include the Cloughaneely marching band throwing out the traditional in favour of whistling up some Michael Jackson songs. Annemarie Mc Cafferty’s school of dancing will perform a specially choreographed Thriller Riverdance and the young Comhaltas group will perform their own take on some of the well known MJ songs. The Cloughaneely Drama group are also getting in on the act with a performance of their specially written skit for the night.
For more information on the event and how to register or give sponsorship check out the Facebook page ‘Thriller for Haiti’ or contact Bridget on (086) 2530221.
