Elderly homeowners targeted in spate of burglaries in Strabane district


A number of elderly people have been targeted in a spate of burglaries across Strabane and Castlederg.
Detectives are investigating after three homes were targeted yesterday afternoon.
Just after 12 noon yesterday, police received a report of two men, one believed to be armed with a screwdriver, arriving at a house in the Woodside Road area of Killeter.
One of the men spoke with the homeowner outside the house while the other entered the property.
The pair are believed to have subsequently re-entered the house making off with a wallet containing a small quantity of cash.
The suspects, are described as having dark hair and having worn dark-coloured clothing and are reported to have fled in a black vehicle.
A further report was received that a property on Victoria Road, Magheramason was ransacked and money taken as the female resident sat outside while the occupant of a house on Woodend Road, Strabane returned home to find jewellery had been stolen.
Police believe the burglaries are linked and may also be linked to other recent crimes, including the theft of a wallet at knife point in the Fyfin Road area.
Anyone with information regarding the incidents or who witnessed a black coloured car, possibly a BMW with an English registration – in these areas acting suspiciously is asked to come forward.
