38 people awaiting beds at LUH as Saolta warns of busy ED

There were 38 people awaiting in-patient beds at Letterkenny University Hospital this morning, seven of them on Emergency Department trolleys. That’s four down on yesterday’s figure, but still the third highest figure in the country today.
Nationally, the INMO says there were 550 admitted patients awaiting beds, the highest number, 60, at University Hospital Limerick.
Meanwhile, following the suspension of the Nurses’ Strike, the Saolta Hospital Group has confirmed all scheduled outpatient appointments are going ahead as planned at Letterkenny University Hospital, and anyone with appointments today, tomorrow, and Thursday should attend.
Surgical patients across the group are being contacted by their hospital if their procedure is going ahead.
Meanwhile, Saolta says it expects Emergency Departments to be extremely busy today, and they are asking the public to only use these services if absolutely necessary.
