Council to consider installing tracking devices on life rings

 

Donegal County Council is to explore the idea of installing tracking devices on life rings in various parts of the county.
It follows a number of instances, particularly in the Letterkenny area, where the lifesaving equipment was either removed or vandalised in recent months.
It’s thought that the innovative technology would not only alert the local authority when a life ring is being stolen but also raise the alarm should someone be in distress.
Cllr. Gerry McMonagle says the theft of these lifebuoys is a very serious issue in the county, and the Council need to strongly consider this approach:
