Reopening of Old Abbey Cemetery at Kilmacrennan being discussed

 

Donegal County Council is to enter into discussions with a local committee in Kilmacrennan to discuss the reopening of the Old Abbey Cemetery.
Access to the cemetery has been blocked for safety reasons for some time, with Cllr John O’Donnell arguing that this denies people the right to visit graves of their loved ones, as well as losing out on heritage opportunities.
It’s envisaged an application will be made to the Heritage Council for support, with Cllr O’Donnell saying that’s appropriate given that 2021 marks the 1500th anniversary of the birth of St Colmcille:
